(no subject)

Last night at around 8pm there were cries of: "Oh my God, there's water coming through the kitchen ceiling!"

A quick search located the source of the water. The toilet. Gingerly, my mother and I peeled back the carpet, with me going: "If it's used toilet water, then there's no way I'm dealing with it. The carpet was soaked through within a half metre radius of the toilet. Thankfully though, I discovered a washer had come loose in the clean water supply to the cistern so we weren't dealing with anything too nasty. We both breathed a sigh of relief, plonked a basin underneath, mopped up the water and waited for my dad to come home as, by unspoken agreement, anything to do with toilets, bins and dead animals is a dedicated Man Job (tm) in our household. No we're not a totally non equal opportunity family, honest. When he came in, he tightened the washer, which then fractured and he ended up with a high pressure jet of water right in the face. I laughed. A lot.

This appears to be a bad week for my father - I nearly electrocuted the poor guy the night before by turning the lights on in the bathroom. How was I to know he was at the top of the step ladders, in the dark, changing the light bulbs at that exact moment? He swore and called me something really quite impressively foul for him, at which point I swore back and regressed about 10 years by stomping off to my room and slamming the door...

Ah, the joys of living in a busy house.

Am very excited because some of my mail order Christmas pressies arrived today and some of them are so damned cool I might have to keep them. Hopefully, I'll be able to finish my shopping soon without setting foot in a crowded chain store full of screaming children and singing hamsters.

Ho hum, salmon and potato waffles for tea...

Edit: To my Merkin friends... Happy Thanksgiving y'all :)
