On Wedndesday I drove nearly all of the way to Austin in a brand new Toyota Camry (6 litre engine - WTF?!). This thing was like a panther on a leash until I figured out the cruise control and made it do a steady 65mph. Mwahahaha! The bluebonnets were just coming into bloom along the side of the freeway, so hopefully they should be out by the time we drive home tomorrow. We arrived at our destination - Deb's sister's house and settled ourselves in, as the family were out of town. Then came the monster task of figuring out which bands to go and see. Of course, these plans nearly always change, according to who wants to see what and which venues are full and not letting people in but it's part of the fun to pore over the newspaper with a highlighter. Early picks were: Goldfrapp, Beth Orton, Belle & Sebastian, Ben Taylor. It turned out completely differently in the end.
I couldn't not write down my favourite band names of the festival: Lesbians on Ecstasy, Skeletons & the Girl Faced Boys (ooookay), Goblin Cock (I want to know if cock has the same connotations in American English...) They Shoot Horses Don't They, The Fire Marshals of Bethlehem, Insect Sex Act, Swollen Members (yes, my sense of humour is that cheap) and I Love You But I've Chosen Darkness. None of these I went to see but I thought they deserved a mention!
Urghhh... energy dip. I am wrecked from 4 solid days of music. Time for a snack and a nap!
