Sunny England... No really!
Mar. 23rd, 2003 02:50 pmIt is an absolutely glorious day - even more glorious than yesterday and I didn't think that was possible. I think summer has come extra specially early. If I am going to be all pessimistic then I'll say this happened last year and then it pissed with rain from May - August. But got to enjoy it now. Glass is half full, half full I tell you.
Yesterday I deliberately did next to nothing because crashing spectacularly like I did last weekend isn't something I care to repeat. I slept about 15 hours and then dragged my quilt down to the conservatory and tried to absorb as much light and warmth as possible, a bit like a lizard ;) Then I went for a walk with my mum in the local park and gardens and, of course, there were ten trillion children there but they were quite spread out. The moment there is anything like a hint of sunshine, the light-starved Brits all come crawling out of the woodwork and start behaving like it's 80 degrees in the shade and there were mile long queues at the ice cream van and everyone was out in shorts. I forced my mother to let me look around the children's zoo because I wanted to see the guinea pigs. I must have been the oldest person there without a child. I am a sucker for guinea pigs because they are just so full of personality - I especially like the ones with the hair sticking up all over the place. And they'd just been fed and were bickering over cabbage leaves, which reminded me of the ones I had when I was younger.
Last night I was going to go the cinema but there was sweet FA worth seeing unless I wanted to drive to Manchester. I love this dumbing down we have in the smaller towns. No, people who don't live in cities wouldn't possibly want to watch anything intelligent now would they?! So a friend and I got out a video, which was okay. Not the best thing I've seen Morgan Freeman in but it passed the time.
Today, I had my altruistic hat on because I volunteered to help out at the Blue Peter Water Works Appeal car boot sale we organised through work. I went down at 9am and directed traffic and helped out on stalls and then was dumb enough to go and look around the other stalls on my break, which means I've come back with junk, which has replaced the junk I donated. Wasn't quite supposed to work like that... My mum came down to look around and she bought more than me - we'll both be in trouble with my dad when he finds out. I enjoyed helping out though cause I got to meet up with some of the people in the department I temped for a couple of years ago while I was still a student and they still remember me, which is nice, and I got to catch up with gossip.
I've since come in and eaten and played with the cat in the garden and now I'm trying to persuade myself to do all the tasks I have to do for Monday. As my grandpa is so fond of saying, "Procrastinate now..."
