Cold January Day
Jan. 18th, 2003 05:47 pmIt's been a particularly cold, damp, January day but it actually has been quite a good day. Physically, I've been feeling pretty rough for the last 2 weeks, which is probably to do with me being bad over Christmas and eating chocolate and mince pies and everything that isn't on the anti-candida diet. It's been pretty bloody hard going back to eating simply again because, even though chocolate tasted pretty weird at first after not eating it for 4 months, I got to liking it again fairly fast! And there was so much of the damn stuff lying around the office, hanging off the christmas tree... I'm still having cravings for those orange crunch ones in Quality Street.
The cat and I watched 3 episodes of Buffy last night. Well, she slept and I watched, while drinking some of the very nice red wine I got from my team leader as a thank you. It was a really good organic syrah from Oz. (Ooh, how pretentious am I, darlings?!) But, no, it really was good and went down a treat. And for every bottle purchased, a donation is made to conservation so I felt quite good drinking it, even though it was my team leader's money that went to conservation and not mine but details, details...
I woke up feeling amazingly okay, probably because I had a reiki treatment after work. Usually, I am wrecked at weekends after 5 work days and I have 48 hours to get my body back to some semblance of functionality but it looks like I won't have to sleep like something dead this weekend so that's a bonus. I didn't do anything much today, really. I went with my parents to this shop in the middle of nowhere that sold all sorts of delicious food. I bought myself some roasted, salted, broad beans, which sound revolting but are actually very nice. I also saw some hickory smoked nuts and tried a free sample and they were great but they were expensive so I decided I didn't want them that badly. My mum and dad bought some black pudding, which I may or may not partake of, depending on whether I can pretend I don't know what goes in it and not see it again prior to cooking. I also bought my sister some swiss milk chocolate filled with apricot liqueur and I've taken myself to my room so I don't have to see her eating it. *sniffle*
We also stopped by a garden centre on the way home. This isn't a chain and the place is absolutely stuffed full of antiques, restored furniture, and old rusting machinery and artifacts that people can buy and do up for their gardens. So, of course, I was in my element. I want an old red telephone box but it would look pretty stupid in our garden. Maybe when I'm a proper grown up with a proper garden. *grin* The place had really developed since my last visit, oh, about 2 years ago. And now there is a tea room and restaurant. You could sit outside in little individual garden hut things, woven from willow branches and heated by these giant gas heaters but it was still a bit chilly and I didn't have enough layers so we went inside, which was well worth it because it reminded me of a hobbit hole with a circular window at one end and candles and more antiques and a log fire. So we had a pot of tea, served in a proper bone china tea set and then went home.
I have no idea what to do tonight but I don't think it will involve setting foot outside the house because the temperature has dropped again and I like my warmth.
Anyhoo, kebabs for dinner. Better go...
