Boiler woes

On Sunday around 10pm the boiler stopped working. It did it in a sneaky way, in that we could still hear it whooshing away in the utility room but heat gradually stopped coming out of the radiators and there was no hot water.
When we went and looked at it there was a fault code flashing. The internet said that this was a common enough fault and we should power everything down, make sure all the radiators were turned on and then wait for half an hour, hit reset and it should work.
It didn't. So we ignored it and went to bed. Thank goodness for electric blankets you can leave on a low heat. Monday morning came and we tried the solution again and no better. So
scarfell went to work, after boiling a kettle to get washed and I stayed at home to call the landlord and boiler people.
Technology is wonderful. I was able to remote desktop into work and get work done, while waiting for the boiler people to call back. They suggested several fixes, including topping up the pressure, bleeding radiators etc. No success. So after marching me through those, they told me they couldn't send an engineer out til Tuesday, which I suppose if I'm being fair and rational is not too much of a wait. Luckily I was able to decamp to my parents' house last night for a shower!
This morning I got a call from the engineer to say that he would be at the house between 10 and 1pm. Just after 10 when I was moving boxes from the utility room to the living room so someone can actually get in there - did I mention we moved house recently? - I heard a van pull up and then I heard my phone ringing so I ran upstairs to get it. By the time I got up there the phone had rung off and then I saw the van drive off. A message on my voicemail revealed that the engineer had not bothered to get out of his van, did not knock on the door and then left a voicemail to say that I wasn't in and I should call to rearrange an appointment. The van must have been there for all of 2 minutes, tops. ARGH! I couldn't ring him back as it was an unknown number. So I rang the central number to ask them to get him to turn around and they tried - but by this point he'd hit the motorway and said he couldn't. ARGH!
So, I am still stuck in my freezing house waiting for another engineer to come around, when I could really do with being in work. The thermometer says it's 14 degrees in here, which I suppose isn't awful but damn it's cold enough and now I'm grumpy and annoyed to boot. Wah, wah, poor me.
More tea is required. Right now.
