It's too bloody dark, damp and cold to go out so my evenings of late have mostly been spent with some quality TV. I like to watch boxsets rather than TV to avoid adverts and waiting a whole week for another episode.

Here are my current watches.

Battlestar Galactica: I am currently rewatching from series one. I hold it up there with some of the finest TV made. Admittedly, it did start to get a bit crack-addled in Season four and they made a few mistakes, in my opinion anyway, but that does not take away the brilliant characters, fantastic acting and lots of vipers going swoosh. I love Galactica too - it's big and ugly and battle scarred.

Medium: SFX described Medium as the greatest series no one watches. I like the depiction of family life, the humour between Patricia Arquette's lead and her husband. I like the fact that they aren't perfect, drink beer on a school night, feed the kids supermarket brand cereal and bicker a lot. They also play around with symbolism and clever ways of portraying Alison Dubois' dream sequences. Plus their middle child is reassuringly odd.

Sarah Connor Chronicles: Never really thought I'd be into anything from the Terminator franchise but I do like this series. Lena Heady and Summer Glau are excellent - although I do occasionally want to smack John Connor! Brave casting of Shirley Manson of Garbage fame - although I'm can't really decide whether her wooden acting is because she's intentionally trying to be emotionless or just because she can't act.

Mad Men: Too early to tell whether I like this or not. It's set in the early 1960s and it's won lots of awards for authenticity so I'm loving it for the visual appeal, costumes etc. They aren't so much rubbing your face in the fact that things were different back then (tm), more beating you relentlessly around the head with it. There's also a lack of female characters to identify with. Partially I've got that down to the period in history. I'm hoping the divorcee that everyone is scandalised by will develop into a main character but it's early days. It's intelligent enough and I think I'll stick with it for now and see where it goes.

House: Only just watched the pilot. No opinion as yet!

Anyone got any series they would recommend? I'm not done rotting my brains yet.
